Can you be a Digital Nomad with Kids?

When it comes to making that big decision to go location independent, many hurdles and roadblocks can often enter the mindset. What is I can’t make enough money? What if I become homesick? What if I totally freak out? And perhaps, the most common one, what about my kids?

Well, aren’t we lucky with live in such a technologically advanced era. With the web being accessible from almost any corner of the globe, it now means that working may not be the only benefit of being online.

Many educational sites for children are now flooding the web, and many of them are top quality. Some of these are non-profit organisations such as e-LearningForKids.org, meaning there exists a strong quality in the teachings and learning outcomes. Others are privately run online learning sites like FunSchool, The Homeschool Place and Time4Learning, which offer a range of teaching resources and activities.

To compliment this, there are a range of native apps and software that can be used to teach your kids while living in a foreign place. All of Microsoft, Android and Apple have numerous downloadable apps that can live on your device without needing an internet connection, which is good for times when you can’t seem to get any signal.

Other options include purchasing software packages like Saxon, Inspiration, Kidspiration and Curriculum Associates. These are proven to be quite useful and have gained a great reputation from several digital nomads with kids.

Despite all these advances, one things remains consistent – you the parent MUST take responsibility for your child’s education. You must oversee all the learning work they are doing and be strict on enforcing work. This should be priority number one, even ahead of your own digital nomad work.

At the end of the day, you have become location independent so that you and your family can indulge in the delights of the places of the world and learn of other cultures. However it must never be understated just how important a child’s education is. If you plan to be a digital nomad with kids, you need to think ahead and plan very, very carefully.

If done right, your child’s education can be both extremely effective and a unique growing experience for them as they develop at a young age.
